Van Hire FAQs

You may have questions about hiring a Van from Ally Cat, and we have listed some of the common questions you may have below.

If you have a question that is not listed, or would like more information then please get in touch with us via our Contact page or by calling us direct.

Can I drive a Luton or Low loader?

Yes, you can drive any van (including a Luton sized van) weighing up to 3.5 tonnes on a standard driving. licence.

You do not need any additional driving qualifications.

What happens if I get a puncture during the hire?

Most of our vans come equipped with a spare wheel. If the vehicle is equipped with a spare tyre, then the tools and jack etc will be in the vehicle.

If you are happy to swap the tyre over with the spare then you will be able to do so, alternatively then call the breakdown assistance and they will attend.

It is important to note that punctures, just like windscreen chips / repairs are the drivers responsibility and charges to repair the puncture will apply.

On some occasions if the puncture is not repairable a tyre charge will apply.

What is the fuel policy?

We operate like for like; if you do return the vehicle lower than the level of fuel you started with it will be charged.

What is my liability excess?

Standard Excess for Vans is £1,250.

We do offer a collision damage waiver should you wish to reduce your liability.

What size van do I need?

Call our office and we will advise, it is sometimes hard to get it perfect though!

You may wish to think about how much time you have / trips you can do. Sometimes its better to be safe than sorry with the next size up.

Our Luton vans for example have a tail lift which can aid with heavy items.

Do also consider how much weight you need to carry!

Check out our dimensions and payloads on each vehicle.

What are the vans like to drive?

Don’t worry, most customers often comment on how much like a car they are.

Our modern vehicles often have a lot of the equipment cars come with, sometimes more! Larger mirrors help too.

Ask someone to help you reverse if you are unsure.

Take it easy with corners, and if in doubt, slow down!

How can I secure what I’m transporting?

We offer straps for hire and there are many tie down points in the van.

Some of our Lutons come with shoring poles too.

How many seats does a van have?

Normally 3 but for our small vans it’s just two!

We do crew cabs with 5/6 seats and plenty of space in the cargo section too.
